Welcome to the 2009 Canary Wharf London Motorexpo
Motorexpo… a motor show like no other
The economic downturn of the past twelve months has had a significant impact on the motor industry and many of the world’s leading motor manufacturers have come under intense business pressures. The media has documented the difficult trading conditions and summarised the period as being the worst since the Second World War. For our Motorexpo, this has resulted in a very fragile market and made the creation of the 2009 event the most difficult show we have produced since it launched back in 1996. Yet despite this backdrop, we have received remarkable support from exhibitors and I am delighted to welcome all our manufacturers and visitors to the 2009 Canary Wharf London Motorexpo.
Visitors to this year’s event, the 14th annual free-to-visit motor show to be held throughout the Canary Wharf estate, will enjoy unparalleled access to a line-up of vehicles from many of the world’s leading manufacturers and we are pleased that the London Motorexpo has once again been chosen as the platform for a number of headline grabbing UK debuts. In the ‘First Impressions’ section of this, our official show guide, you will find full details on the star attractions at this year’s event; a list that includes the Aprilia RSV4, Aston Martin DBS Volante and V12 Vantage, Cadillac CTS-V, Jaguar XFR and XKR, full 2010 Land Rover model line-up, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the all-new Saab 9-3X to name just a few. In addition to the great range of cars and bikes, we also welcome American Airlines, The Daily Telegraph, Radisson Edwardian New Providence Wharf and the London Air Ambulance to this summer’s London Motorexpo as our official business partners.
The interactive appeal of the Motorexpo event has been raised even further for 2009 with many manufacturers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla offering full test drive capabilities from their displays or via vehicles located close by. Added to this, Volvo will use the Motorexpo to give visitors a live demonstration of their all-new City Safety technology while Land Rover will offer test drives of their Freelander 2 TD4_e, the world’s first SUV featuring Stop/Start technology, as well as showcasing their vehicles’ full 4x4 capabilities via the ever popular Land Rover Driving Experience, which will be positioned within Montgomery Square for the duration of this summer’s event.
Every year, I thank our visitors for their support of the Canary Wharf Motorexpo and I am sure that once again we are set for record attendance figures in 2009 given the quality of the displays our manufacturers have prepared. However, without the opportunity and input of Canary Wharf as both a venue and partner none of this would have been possible and I would particularly like to thank the Management Team of the Canary Wharf Group for their ever continuing and unstinting support.

Events of this scale require an enormous effort from a multitude of people and I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to all those who have helped during the production of this year’s Motorexpo.

"It is a pleasure to welcome back Canary Wharf Motorexpo in 2009. The event is always a highlight amongst the diverse range of activities held here every year. It marks the start of summer and invites thousands of people out into Canary Wharf's beautiful parks, plazas and lobbies to view the impressive array of cars on display. East London is now a centre for world class arts and events, and we are proud to play our part by hosting the UK’s largest free automobile show."
